Here's some news about foreigners who want to visit or live in Egypt. Starting from August 31st, 2023, if you're not from Egypt and you want a visa or residency there, you have to pay the fees in U.S. dollars or another strong currency.

So, if you're applying for a visa or residency, or if you're late in renewing your residence card, you need to show a receipt proving that you paid the required amount in U.S. dollars or another strong currency.

Also, if you're currently living in Egypt without proper permission, you have three months from the date of this announcement to make things right. To do that, you have to prove that you're staying with an Egyptian host, and you need to pay $1,000 in administrative fees.

In 2022, there were more than 9 million foreigners in Egypt from 133 different countries. This number has been going up, especially because of the conflict in Sudan. In June 2023, the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, said there were about 200,000 war refugees in Egypt.

This new rule from the Prime Minister is part of a plan to help Egypt's economy. The value of the Egyptian pound has been dropping a lot compared to the U.S. dollar since March 2022. Egypt doesn't have enough foreign money, and there's a lot of debt and prices are going up a lot.
