The Egyptian General Authority of Meteorology (EMA) is alerting residents to brace for the zenith of the severe heat wave that has been sweeping across the nation. The most intense conditions are expected to occur on Thursday and Friday, according to the latest forecasts.
As temperatures climb, Cairo is anticipated to see the mercury hit a scorching 42°C (107.6°F). However, it's the southern parts of Upper Egypt that will face even more grueling conditions, with temperatures expected to soar up to 46°C (114.8°F). These figures represent some of the highest temperatures recorded in the region this year, underscoring the unusual intensity of the current heat wave.
Thursday already marked a significant spike in temperatures across most areas, with high heat and humidity dominating the daytime. The northern coasts have been experiencing particularly stifling conditions, and this muggy weather is set to continue into the night across most regions. Despite slightly more moderate humidity levels along the northern coasts, the overall discomfort remains due to the sustained warm temperatures.
The EMA notes that humidity levels are on the rise, which will make the air feel even hotter than the temperatures suggest. This increase could add an additional 2 to 3 degrees to the perceived heat, making the next few days particularly challenging for all residents.
Authorities are urging the public to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking shade or air-conditioned environments can help mitigate the effects of the heat. The EMA continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve.
